Ensuring your water supply during cyclone season

November to April is cyclone season for many parts of Australia. It’s crucial to prepare for the potential devastation a cyclone can bring by putting as many safety measures in place as possible.

Ensuring your household has access to water is a vital precaution in the lead up to cyclone season. Installing a rainwater tank will provide water backup during emergencies when water supply is cut off. Gough Plastics has an extensive range of rainwater tanks to suit your needs and your budget, and we will assist you with making your choice and installing your tank.

Cyclone Season

The following preparatory steps will assist with a safe water supply following a cyclone:

Step 1

Install a rainwater tank before cyclone season commences. Ensure it is properly installed and secured to prevent it from being damaged or causing damage during a cyclone. Gough Plastics will help you with installation and we sell cyclone hold-down brackets for our rainwater tanks also.

Step 2

Keep ample bottled water for drinking in your home during cyclone season.

Step 3

When a cyclone warning is announced, start preparing a temporary internal water supply by filling your bathtub and clean containers. This will assist with cooking and basic cleanliness.

Ensure you have enough water for three days. The average person requires 20L per day, and don’t forget your pets!

Step 4

Place containers of water in your freezer as an alternative form of refrigeration in case of power loss.

Step 5

Following a cyclone, if tap water is still available for drinking and cooking, ensure you boil the water firstly until authorities inform the water is safe to use straight from the tap.

Step 6

After a cyclone has passed and it’s safe to venture outdoors, check your rainwater tank and ensure it hasn’t been damaged before using the water. Gough Plastics rainwater tanks are extremely strong, however we have expert staff and a fully equipped service vehicle available to come straight to you, ready to make repairs if they are ever needed. If your tank has remained undamaged following a cyclone, you will have a ready supply of water.

Gough Plastics staff are locals living in cyclone-prone North Queensland. Our rainwater tanks are built tough using food-grade polyethylene and available in a large range of sizes and Colorbond colours to complement your home and business.
